Helly Hansen Adventurers arrive at ExCeL
Helly Hansen is proud to announce
that two of its most accomplished adventurers, Colin Angus and
Julie Wafaei, will be attending the London International Boat Show
on Saturday 17 January participate in the show’s Adventurer
Day.
All visitors to the show will be given the
rare opportunity to see Colin and Julie talking about their
adventures on the main stage at 12.30pm. The twenty five minute
talk will highlight the extraordinary feats that the couple have
achieved, and how Helly Hansen’s technical apparel has helped them
to accomplish their goals.
Angus and Wafaei gained international
recognition in 2006 for completing the first human-powered
circumnavigation of the globe. The couple paddled, walked, skied
and cycled from Vancouver through Alaska, Siberia and Europe; rowed
across the Atlantic; and worked their way home through the
Caribbean, Central America and the United States, covering nearly
26,000 miles in two years. At the end of 2006 they were named
“Adventurers of the Year” by National Geographic Adventure.
In September 2008, Colin and Julie completed a 7 month, 7,000 km
journey from the northern tip of Scotland to the heart of Syria
using exclusively human-powered amphibious rowboats, specifically
designed to be fitted with a bike and trailer for use on land or
water.
The adventurers’ course followed
ancient transportation corridors traditionally used for trade and
migration, navigating rivers, oceans, coastlines, roads, and canals
in an interconnected route through thirteen countries. This enabled
them to experience the rich cultural tapestry that comprises Europe
and the Middle East in a manner that promotes environmentally
responsible travel as with their previous expeditions.
“It’s fundamentally important to have the right apparel during
extended expeditions,” says Angus. “Helly Hansen has more than
proved its worth to me during expeditions in some of the coldest,
toughest environments on the planet. The brand’s support has been
great and I’m thrilled to be associated with it”.
