Bisham Abbey Sailing and Navigation School, was established in 1991, within the grounds of the National Sports Centre, on the banks of the River Thames, near Marlow Buckinghamshire. We have our own classrooms and fleet of boats, and are the longest standing commersial RYA training center on the upper reaches of the River Thames.
We offer a wide range of RYA courses doth in the classroom and supported on-line from beginners dinghy sailing for children and adults to shore-based theory Day Skipper, Coastal Skipper/Yachtmaster Offshore and Yachtmaster Ocean; all the add-on courses that you would expect, i.e. VHF, GMDSS, First Aid, Diesel Engine and Radar plus practical motor boat handling courses including Inland Waterways Helmsman course (IWHC), Inland Waterways Crew course (IWCC), Powerboat Level 1 & 2, the International Certificate of Competence (ICC), CEVNI test and RYA / MCA Basic Sea Survival / Water Safety. We run the two day shore-based theory RYA Essential Navigation and Seamanship Course aimed at the complete novice, and also have examiners authorised to carry out Boat Safety Scheme inspections.
Our customer are from both the private and commersial sectors requiring qualifications for boating through the UK and Europe. We are one of the few training centres that owns vessels in both the UK and in France and train or clients on our Dutch Barge, Widebeam, Narrow Boat, River crusier or on thier own boats.
We also run the Accessible Boat Club which is a fully inclusive Sailing, Powerboating and Paddling club operated in partnership with the Rivertime Boat Trust. The club operates from the sailing schools location using specialist craft including a Wheelchair accessible powerboat (wheelyboat), adaptive sailing dingies (Sunbird) and group paddling in Bellboats (giant canadian canoe).
